Dr Fredrick Owuor Otieno, MBChB, MMed Assistant Professor and Section Head
Dr Otieno received his MBChB degree in 2002 and his MMed degree in Internal Medicine in 2010, both from the University of Nairobi. He later pursued a fellowship in Rheumatology from the University of Liverpool, UK, in 2015. Previously, Dr. Otieno was a consultant physician and rheumatologist at the Nairobi Arthritis Clinic and served as Director of Clinical Services Delivery at Kenya Episcopal Conference’s Kenya AIDS Response Program (KARP).
He has also worked at the University of Maryland’s Institute of Human Virology as a Senior Technical Advisor for its Partnership for Innovative Medical Education in HIV (PRIME). He has taught at Kenyatta University as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Medicine and was the pioneer District Medical Officer of Health in charge of Makadara District in Nairobi.
His current research interests include the epidemiology of rheumatic diseases in developing countries and clinical correlates of patients with common rheumatic conditions. Dr. Otieno is the current Secretary General of the Arthrheuma Society of Kenya and Uwezo Rheumatology Foundation of Kenya. He is also an active member of both the British Society of Rheumatology and American College of Rheumatology.
