Read MoreParticipation by patients with doctors in same forum was a great success as it helped patients to participate in their own treatment, boosted their confidence as they understood their medical problems better. We managed to train over 500 health professionals( nurses,clinical officers,doctors,occupational therapists,physiotherapists )and indeed more than 750 patients affected with musculoskeletal diseases.
We provided a good platform for Educating and creating more awareness on musculoskeletal diseases some of the key priorities of BJD.
Of the over10 rheumatologists we have in kenya,9 of them were once our trainees who graduated to trainers and now experts helping us shape the foundation vision. Through solicited partnerships we linked them for rheumatology fellowships in various universities having qualified as physicians.Our able alumni turn partners include Dr Paul Etau,Dr Beryl Ganda,Dr Sofia dokwe,Dr Eugene Genga,Dr Fredrick Otieno, Dr Lawrence Owino,Dr Angela Migowa,Dr Naomi Mumo and Dr Sybil Nakitare
Positive feedback and good attendance from training sessions cementing teamwork between doctors, patients and other health professionals.
The partnership between international and local experts created a good forum for sharing of best practices.
The project touched several parts of Kenya including some remote areas where access to healthcare is a challenge
